Free Children's Games
Make Words
This game for
young
children was created from scratch with the visual
programming language
Delphi. In this game the player tries to make two
and three letter words from a given
set of letters to get the highest score they can. A robot is
used
to push the letters around the play area to form the words.
A
screen-shot of the game is
shown below:
Clicking
the NEW GAME button will set out the letters for the letter SET and
LEVEL.
In the above screen-shot the robot has been used to push
three of
the letters together to form the word BAT. The robot is
moved by
either using the arrow keys on the keyboard or by clicking the blue
arrows with the mouse. The words can be formed anywhere in
the
play area as separate words or linked together in 'cross-word' style to
use letters twice. The aim is to get as high a score as
possible
from the given set of letters. Each letter has its score
shown in
the top top-right and the highest scores are usually obtained when the
highest score letters are used twice to make words. Only two
and
three letter words in common usage (and on the program's internal word list) count.
The robot can only push the letters, it cannot pull them so if
a
letter is pushed against the wall it can then only move along the wall.
If it is accidently pushed onto the wall it can usually be moved back by
clicking the UNDO button which will undo the last move. If
that
does not work (as it was not the last move) then the player can start again with those letters by
clicking the NEW GAME button.
When the player has formed all the words they can then clicking the
SCORE IT button will show the score for each word that is on
the
word list and the total score. The highest
score
obtained so far for that letter set and level is shown in the purple
panel (21 in the above screen shot)
There
are three LEVELS of play with five different SETs of letters
in
each level and more letters to deal with in the higher levels.
