Free Children's Games

Welcome to Chaz Rapley's Children's Games Site where games for young children can be downloaded free.  They are designed to run on a PC with Windows 98 and later.  This site is centred around my interest in developing games for young children, using the visual programming language Delphi.  I am an enthusiast programmer, rather than professional and am interested in making contact with other enthusiasts, both in Delphi programming and young children's games.

The games are developed from scratch, so are original and are aimed at exploiting the flexibility of computer-based games as well as being simple in concept and use.  All of the games can be downloaded free.  The games must be downloaded to play, you cannot play any of the games directly on this web site.

This is an interim site to make a few of my games available as my main site is being re-constructed.

A brief summary of the games currently available follows. Just click the title of the game to download it.

THE GAMES:

1. BUTTERFLIES. A simple sliding tiles type game with this computer version including diagonal and 'jump-over' moves allowed on different levels of difficulty.

2. WHAT IS DIFFERENT.  This is a 'Spot the Difference' type game. There are 4 levels of play with an increasing number of objects to look at with increasing level.

3. JEWELS. A 'Hidden Treasure' type game in which the player clicks a tile in the play area to see if treasure is hidden beneath. Can you find them all before the clicks run out?

4. PAIRS. This is a "Matching Pairs' type game where the player clicks a card to reveal its picture for a few seconds and then clicks another card to find a matching pair. To match all the pairs in the least number of clicks, the player has to remember where each previously revealed picture is.

5. FROGS. A game based on the well known game of 'Solitaire', with frogs doing the jumping instead of checkers.  In this game for young children the first level starts with 6 frogs and the last level with 17 frogs.  There is also help with the first few moves if needed.

6. SHAPE UP.  This is an unusual game of matching shapes using multi-coloured outlines of similar and different shapes.  It is not as easy at it looks at first, particularly at the higher levels with the more elaborate shapes.

7. SOUNDS LIKE.   In this game the player hears a sound and has to match it to one of a number of animal pictures shown.  There are 3 levels of difficulty with more pictures and less well-known animal sounds at the higher levels.

8. DOT-TO-DOT.  This game is a computer version of the well known dot-to-dot drawing game.  The mouse is used to click on consecutively numbered dots to join them together.  After (or before) completing the drawing, when the player has tried to guess what it is, the full coloured picture of the drawing can be revealed.

9. PONY FUN. The 'Hasbro My Little Pony' has been used as the theme for a 'Spot the Difference' game with uniquely coloured ponies, different from the Hasbro Ponies.  There are 3 different ponies with 3 different levels of play for each pony.  There are more and more difficult differences at the higher levels.

10. TIDY ROBOT.  In this game the player moves a robot around so that it can push toys (it can only push) and other objects around and onto a shelf as quickly as possible. There are 8 levels of play and a target time for each level.

11. TIGER. The tiger's stripes are all mixed up and need to be restored by clicking and swopping the bits until the stripes are all complete.  There are 2 levels with the bits of tiger stripes twisted as well as mixed up in the higher level.

12. BALLOONS. This is one of my favourite games which can appeal to a wide age range (and not just children!).  The object is to burst balloons (loud bang!) in groups of 2 or more to score as many points as you can.  The size of the group depends on the way you burst the balloons and the points score rockets up with the size of group (e.g. -5 for 1 balloon, 1 for 2 balloons, 25 for 6 and 121 for 12).  In level 1 the balloons drop down vertically in their column whilst in level 2 they can also be moved horizontally if the column next to it in empty.

13. MAKE WORDS. The robot has another job in ths game where the player uses it to push letters around to form 2 and 3 letter words to get the highest possible score.  The words can be formed anywhere in the play area, with the highest scores obtained by linking the words together in "cross-words" style to use some letters twice.

14. ARROW MAZE. What is the shortest way that the mouse can use to get to the cheese?  This is as unusual maze style game, using arrows to show the directions that the mouse can take. There are two levels of play with 4 different mazes in each level and more possible directions for the mouse in the higher level.

15. HIDDEN WORDS. This is a computer version of the well known Word Search type game.  There are 2 levels of play and 3 different ways of playing by using the different levels of Help.  There are 12 different themes to choose from in each level.  The lower level is played on a 8 x 8 play area with words hidden horizontally and vertically whilst at the higher level the play area is 12 x 12 and the words can be also hidden diagonally.

16. EASY KEYS. The aim of this program is to help young children to have fun whilst practising with the keyboard and learning where the different letter keys are.  The game can be played in two modes, using either letters or words.
